Professional History

Gabriel has a broad public law and appellate practice, with a particular focus on criminal, administrative, regulatory, human rights, and constitutional matters.

He was first called to the employed Bar in 2021 whilst working as a Senior Federal Prosecutor at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and came to the private Bar in 2022.

Since coming to the private Bar, Gabriel has acted for a former Government Minister in the Robodebt Royal Commission; for the State of Queensland in habeas corpus, human rights, and constitutional law proceedings; for defendants and the State in regulatory and criminal prosecutions; for ASIC and the QBCC in administrative review proceedings; for public entity and private clients seeking to set aside summonses/subpoenas; for clients contesting adverse Department of Immigration decisions; and for a party to a commercial dispute over the sale of a vessel.

Gabriel was a Merton Lawyers Scholar at the University of Oxford, attaining a Bachelor of Civil Law with Distinction. He received his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts, both with First Class Honours, from the University of Queensland, where he was awarded a University Medal and was named UQ Graduate of the Year.
