Professional History

Matthew read with Richard Dalton KC and Frank Parry KC.

Before signing the Bar Roll, Matthew was employed as a Senior Solicitor with the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office. He started his legal career as an associate in the District Court of South Australia.


Matthew has a national practice that covers all aspects of employment, industrial and workplace health and safety law. He also appears in administrative law proceedings, regulatory prosecutions, inquires and inquests. Matthew acts for clients across a broad range of industries, including building and construction, mining, aviation, financial services, health, education, transport, retail, manufacturing, power generation and stevedoring. Matthew also acts for various State and Federal agencies.

Matthew has been recognised in Doyle’s Guide’s Leading Employment Law Junior Counsel – Australia, Leading Employment Law Junior Counsel – Victoria, and Leading Workplace Health & Safety Law Junior Counsel – Victoria.
